How to Get Your Business Found on Google in Malta (Local SEO Guide)
16 July 2026 · 3 min read
When someone in Malta needs a restaurant, a mechanic, a hairdresser or a plumber, they do the same thing: they Google it. If you do not appear in those results, you may as well not exist to that customer. The good news is that showing up locally is very doable — here is how it actually works.
First, understand the two places you can appear
A Google search for something local shows two things:
- The map results (the "map pack") — the three businesses shown with pins, reviews and directions.
- The regular blue-link results below it — where websites rank.
You want to appear in both. They are won in slightly different ways, so let us take them in turn.
Winning the map: your Google Business Profile
This is free and it is the single highest-impact thing most Malta businesses can do. If you have not claimed and completed your Google Business Profile, do that first.
- Claim it and fill in everything: category, address, hours, phone, and plenty of photos. Google rewards complete profiles.
- Get reviews, and reply to them. Reviews are one of the biggest factors in map ranking — and they are exactly what makes a new customer choose you. Ask happy customers, every time.
- Keep it current. Correct hours (especially over holidays), new photos, the occasional post. An active profile beats a stale one.
Most well-loved businesses already have great reviews — they just never turned that into a reason to be ranked first. Completing your profile is how you do.
Winning the search: your website
The map gets you visibility; a website is what makes Google trust you and what turns a click into a customer. To rank in normal search results, you need:
- A real website (not just a Facebook page — here's why) that is fast and works perfectly on phones. Google ranks mobile-friendly, fast sites higher.
- The right words on the page. If you are a "pastizzeria in Rabat," those words — and the searches around them — should appear naturally in your headings and text.
- A page for each main thing you do. A restaurant benefits from a menu page; a tradesperson from a page per service. Each page is another way to be found.
- Your name, address and phone shown consistently everywhere online.
This "being found" setup is what people mean by SEO, and it is included in every Velmaire build — see the website packages here.
The long game: fresh content
Google favours websites that stay active and answer people's questions. That is why businesses serious about traffic publish helpful articles — exactly like the one you are reading — targeting what their customers search for. Over months, this compounds into a steady stream of visitors who find you before they find a competitor.
Doing this well takes time most owners do not have, which is why our Growth care plan includes four researched articles a month, written to pull in local searches.
What to ignore
You will get emails promising "page one on Google guaranteed" for a fee. Be sceptical. No one can guarantee rankings, and cheap link tricks can get you penalised. Good local SEO is not a trick — it is a complete profile, a fast website with the right words, real reviews, and steady content. Boring, but it works.
A simple order to do this in
- Claim and complete your Google Business Profile today.
- Start asking every happy customer for a review.
- Get a real, fast, mobile-friendly website with a page for each service.
- Keep both active — fresh photos, correct hours, and helpful content over time.
